Micah had another trial without oxygen yesterday morning. He didn't fare any better than when they attempted on Monday :( Truly, that is the only thing that is holding him back from coming home! The doctor said that they'd try again on Monday, but he also decided to prepare for contingencies.
If he does pass his test on Monday, that would be awesome!! He'd be monitored until possibly Friday before coming home. In many ways, we'd prefer this option. So much less to deal with!
If he does not pass, the plan is for him to go home on Monday, but with oxygen, and a heart/lungs monitor. With this option in place, Eric and I got trained on how to use the monitor, and let me tell you that the alarm is SUPER annoying! The good part of this scenario would be that he would be home more quickly, and he would only need to be on the monitor when he's not being supervised (i.e. naptime, in the car, bedtime, etc.). But, he would still need to have oxygen at all times. We'd have to regularly check in with our pediatrician, too, to ensure everything is going OK.
The only other things left to be done are the hearing test, car seat tolerance test, and circumcision. I really debated on the circ. because he has already been through enough and it is not really a needed procedure these days. In the end, we gave consent mainly because Levi has been circumcised. We don't want to have a cause for teasing or animosity in the future.
So, we're just in a holding pattern until Monday. We're OK with that. We like that there is a tentative plan in place and we're beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel... for real this time :)
On a side note, Micah is an eating machine! At the beginning of the week, he was eating about 70ml of milk. Now, he will take as much as 130 ml!! He now weighs 8lbs 8.4 oz! A big boy! Oh how we love our baby and can't wait to show off his cuteness!!!
